Ian Cairns our fantastic EMAP Coordinator from the Hawke's Bay has produced this unit plan and associated worksheet on ponds/wetlands for use in schools.
Wai Care Invertebrate Field Guide
A wonderful macroinvertebrate identification tool. With great photos, biological drawings which make identification a breeze! Also has a great section on characterising the habitat conditions of your study site. Wetland Worksheet
This worksheet is an assessment of wetlands for a basic health index as an introductory wetland session with schools.
Wetland Wonder Experiments
These experiments are designed to prove that wetlands are valuable ecosystems that can retain water by providing suitable storage areas, and by growing plants that specialise in soaking up and storing water. They are VALUABLE in slowing water during a flood.

Guardians of the Mauri
This resource was produced by Te Kawerau a Maki and the Waitakere City Council. It a classroom resource aimed at children under 12 years old. This resource is available on video and DVD.

GLOBE Aotearoa Cloud Chart
This chart has pictures of 8 different cloud types that GLOBE use for cloud identification, and an explanation of each cloud in both Te Reo Māori and English.
GLOBE Interactive Online Cloud Activity
Use clouds to try and predict the weather by using this new GLOBE interactive online resource. It requires a free browser plug-in, Macromedia Flash Player 7.0.
Contrail Education
This complements the GLOBE Cloud Chart and aids in identifying contrail types. There is also a Contrail Chart that was developed by NASA that is downloadable from this site.

SEREAD Resources
SEREAD is an educational programme linked to current teaching programmes in Pacific Island schools. The aim of these resources is to provide teachers with practical classroom materials and resources that they can use in their classrooms. There are two teaching units: What is Climate? which is aimed at years 7-10 children and What is Weather? which is aimed at years 3-6 children.
Traditional Māori Weather and Climate Forecasting
Over the centuries, Māori have developed an extensive knowledge of weather and climate. NIWA have produced a fabulous poster on these traditional methods which is available by emailing posters@niwa.co.nz.

Soil Kit

MUC Guide
This is a resource for doing land cover classification, a key component of the GLOBE Land Cover Investigation. It is a large file (10MB) so you will require a broadband connection.
Multispec Software
The MultiSpec Software package is a resource for opening and visualizing LandSat satellite imagery. It is produced and provided for free download by the Laboratory for Remote Sensing at Purdue University.

GLOBE at Night
The 2007 GLOBE at Night campaign runs from March 8-21. Join thousands of other students, families, schools and citizen-scientists from around the globe hunting for stars. Take part in this international event to observe the night sky and learn more about light pollution around the world.
